These are some concepts that I worked on for a proposed designer series of Blackburn carbon fibre water bottle cages. The graphics were inspired by Tron and the surf film Modern Collective by Kai Neville.

I have been given the opportunity to design graphics and specify colors for countless Bell helmets. This is a small sample of my work. Each graphic is carefully planned based on trend research, sales history, & focus group data. I have designed graphics for everything from toddler girls to adult men, but my favorite is always working on the youth boy category. The vented 3D surface of a helmet presents many unique challenges. Graphics often stretch, distort, or fail to register. Many times it takes multiple attempts to nail a graphic. It is a great feeling when you get back a perfect sample from the factory. It feels even better when you get to see people all over the country riding helmets with your graphics on them.

This is a concept that I worked on for the redesign of the the Bell Fitness line of products. Bell fitness mostly sells at large retailers that carry a whole chunk of product. I wanted to leverage the space the the brand occupied and get consumers attention by having the individual packages create a larger design when placed together. I designed the three dimensional band to line up across packaging and create a head turning effect when placed on the shelf. Working with three dimensional packaging on large product lines provides an exciting opportunity to explore design elements that would otherwise be impossible.

I have been responsible for the aesthetics of over twenty bats for Easton. From picking the paint to designing the graphics, I loved every second of it. When I was a kid (before I knew what graphic design was) I was obsessed with baseball cards & used to spend countless hours studying team logos and baseball card layout minutia. Now as an adult I have been given the unique opportunity to design the look of a child's first bat.

I was approached by the Calpine Los Esteros Critical Energy Facility to design a new identity for the plant as well as a mark for the Operations & Maintenance crew. We wanted to create logos that quickly conveyed power & strength. It was also imperative that they both were part of the same visual family and felt natural together. It was important to the plant that the workers liked the new branding and were proud to wear it both in the plant and around the community. I looked to the visual cultures of the military, constructivism, & labor unions, for inspiration. The Operations & Maintenance group wanted the yellow jackets that plague the plant to be included in the logo for their team so I made sure to make it the heart of their mark.

I designed the complete package for the action sports startup Ankor, to announce their presence to the world. The concept behind the brand was to create something authentic that would resonate with the board sports culture. We saw an opportunity for a new niche brand as many action sports brands consolidated into large corporate ownership in the mid 2000's. Many action sports enthusiasts were skeptical of the new ownership of their favorite brands, but their massive budgets were quickly building an impressive team of sponsored athletes. Our strategy was to use Ankor's lack of budget as a strength. At every interaction opportunity with consumers we emphasized the fact that nobody was paid to wear Ankor clothing. For the visual design direction I looked to constructivism and urban street art as influences, channeling the rebellious spirit of the brand, and creating a clear distinction with the status quo. I really had a blast working on this project, and love seeing the clothing I designed on the streets.

Craviotto Drum Company makes some of the highest end drums in the world in a small factory in Watsonville California. I had the opportunity to design a whole new direction for the brand. Since the products are already works of art, I wanted to use understated design elements that would let the product move to the top of the visual hierarchy. I let this goal be my guide as I designed a new website, print ads, & catalog that would reintroduce Craviotto to the world.

PWDR Snowboards was a conceptual project that I took on as a learning experience. I wanted a chance to design the complete brand experience for an action sports hard good company from scratch. I started by carefully defining the brand and worked forward creating a style guide, color palette, & photography direction. I then applied the brand to printed materials, hard goods, & environments. Every once in a while it is fun to see where design will lead when there aren't any preexisting parameters.
